The Word for Today
When we love in the modern way we really talk in terms of trade, you do this for me and I will do that for you… we say I would love you to do that and we ask what is in it for me? Perhaps not always, but I think we can relate to the fact that we do not like doing things for nothing; after all, we don’t like to work without pay, do we? A landlord does not like to rent his house to non-paying tenants and banks do not like to lend you money without interest… getting a loan is not easy these days.
So Love in the World is not understood as Love, but simply a commodity, something to trade and bargain for. This is why we have so little Love in the World, why there is little to no harmony, unity or peace. When we say “Make love not war,” nice idea, but not correct as even that is a trade of sorts. Love to be LOVE must be unconditional, never traded; for love falls equally from God on us sinners and saints the Bible says;
But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous
God is Omnipresent, unconditional, His language is universal, Love is spoken to all, we all understand it but only when we truly appreciate it can we come to know it and learn to practice it and live by it. Teaching this divine language to others we find that we will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
